7 POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
ACV if not used properly without any prior knowledge can land you in serious problems like:
- Gastrointestinal problems:
The gastrointestinal tract is the digestive system that leads from the mouth to the anus and the problems are related to the stomach and digestive system.
When undiluted ACV is consumed and that too in excess, gastrointestinal problems can arise like stomach ulcer, nausea, heartburn, and also diarrhea in some cases.
- Blood sugar levels may reach too low in special cases like gastroparesis:
Gastroparesis is a functional disorder between stomach nerves and muscles, in simple words it is paralysis of the stomach where the stomach can’t empty the food itself because of no coordination between nerves and muscles. So, the duration of food in the stomach increases, lowering the blood sugar levels.
ACV in addition slows down the absorption of food, also lowering blood sugar levels.
Therefore, people with gastroparesis are advised not to take ACV else this could worsen their condition.
- Potassium levels can reach too low:
If people suffering from hypokalemia (a condition where potassium levels are already low in the blood) consume ACV, their potassium level goes lower and they suffer from abnormal heart rate, weakness, fatigue, etc. which can land them in some serious health problems also.
- It may lead to Weak and Fragile Bones:
Researchers claim that the excessive presence of acid in one’s body can lower bone mineral density making the bones brittle. Also, the high acid content in the body works negatively and results in bone loss.
SOME MORE SIDE EFFECTS OF ACV
- It may cause skin and throat burn:
Undiluted use of ACV is very harmful especially when it comes to the human body. Using it directly on the skin or consuming it can give a burning sensation and affect negatively for a longer period of time.
- It may cause tooth erosion:
Studies have proved that undiluted and direct use of ACV majorly affects teeth enamel, which further results in tooth erosion, and cavities.
- Drug interaction:
ACV interacts with diabetes medication. When they both together are both combinedly taken the blood sugar level drops down very fast, which is a cause of concern.
Hypokalemia medicines also interact with ACV, resulting in lower potassium levels, which is again a health concern.
- Limit your intake to 1.5 – 2 tsp, excessive use of it can be harmful to health.
- Always dilute it with water before consuming, never ever take it directly.
- If you are on any medication, consult your doctor before taking it.
